MORE TESTIMONIALS

“Mrs. Baggett has been one of the most profound influences in my life. From Children's Choir at Southside Baptist to three years in her English classes at Austin, Mrs. Peggy's wisdom and character has shaped me into the young man that I am today. She showed true devotion, investment, and passion in the classroom and at the Church. She will show even more devotion, investment, and passion as a School Board member. She has spent her career in the school system, and as such, is all the more fit for a governance position in that school system. At a time when much work is to be done in the school system, she is the right candidate for the job.”

"I had the opportunity to be one of Mrs. Baggett's students twice. She encouraged my love for English literature and inspired me to become an English teacher. Decatur is a city truly blessed to have her run for office."

"To (B)aggett or Not to (B)aggett, that is the question, as Shakespeare once stated. Mrs. Baggett is well qualified to continue being a servant leader for the Decatur community on your local school board, as she was once my AP English IV teacher in Mississippi Public Schools in 1989! Great person, great family, and one of my favorite teachers of all time, as she truly cares for others!"

"An experienced educator--I can attest to that! Mrs. Baggett, I can still recite the prologue of The Canterbury Tales."

"Knowing the dedication of your daughter to the defense of law, order, and upholding our constitution rights, leads me to believe that without outstanding parenting she would not have become one of my examples of continued hope in our country.  Your husbands reputation for being a fair and upright man. Also based on your outstanding qualification, and as a also my love for the man my Fried Eli is growing into have lead me to make the following commitment:  I pledge you my support.  I endorse you and will help in your endeavor.  I trust you will be true and fight the good fight.   Good luck...we look forward to our tenure serving the citizens of our city. "In addition to being a diligent, passionate teacher, Mrs. Baggett continually volunteered her time for the betterment of our community. I particularly remember the generous amount of time she contributed to "A Night in Maycomb" during the school year while balancing her multiple classes and never neglecting any of her many responsibilities. Not only was she a great teacher, she was and remains a friend to all her students. She genuinely cares about her students successes inside and outside of the classroom."

"Mrs. Baggett is one of the best teachers I have ever had in my school career. I learned more from her in the single semester I had her than in the previous eleven years. She has plenty of experience in the DCS system, and I trust she knows what she is doing."

"Since leaving public office a few years ago, I have steadfastly declined to "officially endorse" local candidates, preferring to recall the wise counsel of former mayor Bill Dukes, my minister father, and others who cherished common ground yet correctly noted that anyone who has lived in the public arena will at times be asked to set aside neutrality and choose among friends, co-workers, church members, and acquaintances. This year is no exception. In light of that disclaimer, it was my privilege to serve as our city council's liaison to the local school board during a wonderful era of economic stability and growing civic awareness. Austin High School in particular was often praised for its innovative programs and creative faculty such as Peggy Baggett, our longtime family friend. To anyone who may not know her, I have no reservation whatsoever in affirming that Peggy is a highly qualified, extremely capable person. If elected, she will no doubt continue to be a dynamic and effective champion for Decatur City Schools."

"Whan that Aprille with his shoures soote", the famed prologue to Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales", still floats easily through happy memories of my high school experience. Mrs. Baggett, as I referred to her then, required every student to recite this from memory. I can still remember sitting in a chair on the side of her desk and she simply saying, "Inspire me, Jason", as I was about to recall those most impressive words. This was a class like no other I had ever experienced at that time. Little did I know, she was truly preparing me for the "real" college experience that awaited beyond my high school graduation. How fortunate was I that to have such a skilled educator. Peggy Baggett possesses that rare combination of creative genius, consistency in execution, and passion for her craft. She embodies all traits of a true educator. I was not simply fortunate to have her as my English teacher, but truly blessed that she and her husband landed in Quitman, MS, where they invested in the lives of countless children and youth. Hundreds, if not thousands, were impacted by a strong, devoted, and challenging teacher. No one has ever been taught by Peggy, who applied themselves, and not been impacted positively. No one. I have known her for over thirty years and have loved and respected her not only as a teacher, but as a neighbor, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She has earned the right to move to a new level of leadership in education and she deserves the vote of all Decatur residents. Don't let this amazing opportunity to add such a positive influence and skilled communicator to the lives of the students at Decatur city schools."

"My sister and I both had the joy of being in Mrs. Baggett's English classes. I had her in 9th grade and again in 12th grade. In 9th grade, I was terrified because English class had been a cake walk before her, and she taught us soooo much! But when I got to be in her class again in 12th grade, I was overjoyed. She has such a passion for student learning that shined through in her rigorous English classes, and she will be able to serve students even more on the DCS Board. I can't wait."

"Peggy is the consummate professional and leader. Though that is her strong suit, it is far surpassed by her duty to God first and servanthood second. From helping to coordinate the festivities for the 50th year celebration at Austin High School to being instrumental to the hiring of over 30 students at the new McDonald's on the Beltline, she tirelessly and enthusiastically supported and represented the students and faculty at AHS. She gives her 100% to everything her hands and heart touch. Her experience and love for education make her the best candidate for this position."

Having witnessed her dedication, energy, and good humor as an educator, I look forward to everything she will accomplish for our schools as a school board member. She has my admiration as a former student, and my full confidence as a citizen who cares about the future of education in our city.."

As a human being, she is a compassionate, kind, and Christlike force, who has made a difference in the lives of countless young people. "I have known Peggy Baggett for many years. She is a dedicated educator who would bring her many years of classroom experience to the board of education. She understands what students and educators deal with on a daily basis. This fresh perspective is needed on the school board and this perspective has been missing for many years. Peggy is dedicated to education and to our community. She is a leader who could help our schools. I am proud to call her my friend and hope that you would consider voting for her for school board."

"Mrs. Baggett will always be one of my favorite teachers. It wasn't because of what she taught me or how hard she pushed us in the classroom; but her attitude while doing it. I have always believed, if you truly love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life. It was obvious Mrs. Baggett truly loved being in the classroom and that she was there to make a difference in the lives of her students. That's what will always stick out to me. I have no doubt her passion for education has been and will be a life long commitment. I can't wait to see her continue to serve Decatur City Schools in a new role."

"There is so much that I could say about Mrs. Peggy Baggett! As a tenth grader, I was initially intimidated by my new English teacher. Little did I know that she would leave such a lasting impact on me! The standard that Mrs. Baggett held my classmates and I to made college English courses nothing short of a breeze. Mrs. Baggett worked wonders in the classroom, and I am positive she will work wonders on the DCS board!"

As a senior in Peggy Baggett's Advanced Placement English class, I knew that I was sitting at the foot of a master teacher. She seemed to know everything about her subject, and she presented it with utmost confidence at a level that all students could understand and enjoy. She taught us in such a way that my classmates and I easily recognized that this teacher had a dedication to her job that was unparalleled: she actually cared about us learning what she was teaching. This level of caring and dedication made a deep impression on me. In the acknowledgments of my dissertation, I recognized Mrs. Baggett as one of the teachers who inspired me to become what I am today: a college composition and literature teacher. As I progressed through middle school and high school, I always felt that I wanted to become an English teacher. Having a teacher like Peggy Baggett sealed the deal for me. I knew what my calling was, and Mrs. Baggett inspired me to pursue my dreams. She is a phenomenal example of a person who is dedicated to the field of teaching. I have spent my career trying to uphold the standards that teachers like Mrs. Baggett set for me. When electing a school board member, a voter should seek out a candidate who has first-hand knowledge of academic excellence. Mrs. Baggett's level of excellence in the field of teaching makes her the perfect candidate for the Decatur School Board.

I never considered myself a creative person. I am not musically inclined and not much of a dancer. Art class was not my forte. More than anything, I was not a creative writer. But that all changed when I enrolled in Mrs. Baggett's English class my sophomore year at AHS. She challenged me to become a better writer, thinker, and student overall. The activities and writings I did her in class allowed me to access that untapped creativity that I thought I didn't possess. I was fortunate enough to be in her class again my senior year and have her help me with my graduation speech. Her efforts to help me improve my speech and presentation skills were unparalleled. Once again, I felt that she wanted me to be the best person I could be. Mrs. Baggett has always been heavily invested in the success of her students, and I would not be the same student and person without her as a mentor. I am confident she will have that same passion and sincerity when she is elected to the DCS board.
